A well-known and well respected sports personality, Gary is a former Republic of Ireland International footballer and is best known for his chant, loved and adored by travelling Irish fans for over a decade “We all dream of a team of Gary Breens”
Born in Hendon, England; Gary is a proud Irishman, whose parents hail from Kerry and Clare. He enjoyed a stellar football career playing professional football at various clubs in England spanning a period of 20 years.
Gary has a regular punditry and co-commentating role with Setanta Sports and is also a regular guest on Newstalk’s Off The Ball show.
Most recently Gary has been the face of Spar’s Campaign around sending a ‘Team of Gary Breens’ to France.

A footballing centre half, Gary played Premiership football with Coventry, West Ham, and captained Sunderland under fellow Irishman Mick McCarthy.
His domestic career also took in spells at Gillingham, Peterborough United, Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers among others with his only major honour coming as captain of Football
League Chapionship Winners Sunderland in 2005.
Gary won 63 caps for the Republic of Ireland, scoring 7 goals along the way.
He played a vital role in the 2002 FIFA World Cup campaign, playing every minute of Ireland games and scoring in Ireland's 3–0 victory over Saudi Arabia.
