Henry Shefflin – Kilkenny GAA Legend, Lucozade Sport Ambassador and Media Personality
One of the finest hurlers to ever grace the sport, Henry has experienced unrivalled success with club and county as well as on a personal level. He continues to break records and rack up personal achievements, sitting comfortably on his own as the most decorated GAA athlete of all time.
Born in Waterford and a native of Ballyhale in Co. Kilkenny, he was born into a family with a strong sporting background, particularly in hurling. Henry’s unique skills were first noted and honed in St. Patricks National School, where it was clear from an early age that he would be a star of the future. The unprecedented success he has experienced since has earned him legendary status not only in his native Kilkenny but throughout Ireland, where is seen as one of the greatest sports stars the country has ever produced.
Henry’s status as the most decorated GAA star of all time has made him a much sought after and highly regarded media personality within the GAA, appearing on television shows including The Late Late Show.
His relationship with Lucozade Sport, including advertisements and image rights, was negotiated by and continues to be managed by JGA Sports Agency. This includes his key role as Lucozade Sport ambassador in the company’s Club Crusade competition and Last 15 Minutes advertisements.

Henry’s record of being the only player in the history of the GAA to have won nine All-Ireland titles on the field of play is testament to his talent and dedication. He continues to chase more titles as the driving force of an all-conquering Kilkenny side.
His list of honours with his county includes nine All-Ireland Senior Championships (2000, ’02, ’03, ’06, ’07, ’08 ’09, ’11, ’12), twelve Leinster Senior Championships (1999, ’00, ’01, ’02, ’03, ’05, ’06, ’07, ’08, ’09, ’10, ’11), five National Hurling Leagues (2002, ’03, ’05, ’06, ’09) and four Walsh Cups (2005, ’06, ’07, ’09). Henry has also been named as an all-star on a record eleven separate occasions.

Success as a hurler has not been confined to County level as Henry has inspired his local club Ballyhale Shamrocks to many titles including five Kilkenny Hurling Senior Championships (2006, ’07, ’08, ’09, ’12), three Leinster Senior Hurling Championships (2006, ’08, ’09) and two All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championships (2007, ’10). He can also boast two Fitzgibbon Cup winners’ medals (1999, ’00) from his time as a student in Waterford Institute of Technology.
A hardworking, dedicated and gifted hurler, he continues to win titles at all levels and is much sought after for media opportunities such as photo calls, launches and guest appearances through JGA Sports Agency.
In 2002, he completed a clean sweep of the three most prestigious awards in GAA; the Vodafone, Texaco and Gaelic Players’ Association Hurler of the year.
He repeated this feat in 2006, which capped off an amazing year as Henry was also recognized for his achievements in hurling as RTE’s Sports Person of the Year, seeing off strong competition from big names of Irish sport.
